Shift Charts

The Leafs were shellacked in the first period as the Sabres racked up 7 scoring chances that I considered to be of very high quality.  Typically, a team that gets 7 HQ (or A rated) chances over a whole game did very well, so that tells you how poor the Leafs' defensive effort was.  Gustavsson definitely kept the game close with his heroics in goal.

Komisarek had a terrible game with a -9 differential (1-10) at even strength.

Amazingly, the Leafs were outchanced while on the power-play.  The Grabovski-Kulemin-MacArthur trio were +2 with the man-advantage while Bozak-Kadri-Kessel were minuses.  The story was similar at evens.

Slava Duris started writing at his blog "Under the Helmet of Slava Duris" in May of 2009. He is currently engaged in a project to count scoring chances for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. Slava chose his moniker in tribute to Vitezslav "Slava" Duris, a defenceman who defected from Czechoslovakia in the early 1980s to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs and was known for wearing one of the goofiest looking helmets in Leafs history.
