Scoring Chances for NHL Game Number 20 729

The Tampa Bay Lightning had a strong first period against the Maple Leafs as they took five of their six high-quality chances on the night and scored their two goals within the first 20 minutes of the game.  The Leafs only had one scoring chance in the first, a shot through traffic by Clarke MacArthur.  They did rebound with a better 2nd period but were stymied by Dwayne Roloson.  At the other end, James Reimer, called up from the Marlies several days ago, faced no fewer than three Martin St. Louis breakaway opportunities, none of them resulting in a goal for Tampa.  The Leafs lost (their sixth loss in their last seven games) but certainly through no fault of Reimer, who was solid in net.

Slava Duris started writing at his blog "Under the Helmet of Slava Duris" in May of 2009. He is currently engaged in a project to count scoring chances for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. Slava chose his moniker in tribute to Vitezslav "Slava" Duris, a defenceman who defected from Czechoslovakia in the early 1980s to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs and was known for wearing one of the goofiest looking helmets in Leafs history.
