Scoring Chances for NHL Game Number 20934

The Leafs came out with a fairly strong effort in the first period, slow start aside, and were ahead 2-0 on the strength of an 8-5 lead in scoring chances.  However, the team completely ran out of steam after the midway point of the 2nd period, as the Thrashers pressed hard to outchance the Leafs 10-2 at even strength for the rest of the game, with a whopping 17-3 edge in all situations from that point on.  I wouldn't hang this OT loss on Giguere, even though he did allow all 3 of the goals scored by Atlanta.  His defence was of little help to him.  Schenn and Gunnarsson, in particular, struggled mightily.

Ouch, what a rough night for Luke Schenn (1-11 = -11 at EV) and Gunnarsson (1-8 = -7).

Slava Duris started writing at his blog "Under the Helmet of Slava Duris" in May of 2009. He is currently engaged in a project to count scoring chances for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. Slava chose his moniker in tribute to Vitezslav "Slava" Duris, a defenceman who defected from Czechoslovakia in the early 1980s to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs and was known for wearing one of the goofiest looking helmets in Leafs history.
