SIGNING ALERT! SIGNING ALERT! SIGNING ALERT!

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed 2009 5th-round draft pick Eric Knodel to a one-year entry level contract. He will report to the Toronto Marlies immediately.

If you're wondering how Knodel is able to play for the Marlies this season despite his contract not kicking in until next, that is because he signed a PTO (Pro Tryout) deal with the Leafs' AHL team.

Knodel was originally picked 128th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the first draft of Brian Burke's tenure as Leafs GM. He wreaks of Brian Burke-iness, too. He's a 6'6" 225lbs American defenceman (West Chester, Pennsylvania) who played college hockey. That's a Brian Burke pick if I ever saw one, kids.

Jeffler is at every Marlies game so follow him for updates on the new Leafs signing's progress.

Wow, how incredibly non-informative. Anybody who is an avid Leafs fan with access to hockeyDB could've figured this out. Thanks I guess?

@Millerrr

Its a site on Leaf updates and news dude. So i figure had he not written an article on it at all, you'd just be posting about how they're lacking in content. You're doing pretty well in going out of your way to be a dick

I knew this was coming down the pipe. Spott alluded to it in recent interview.

If you read between the lines, Spott also seemed to indicate that Tom Nilsson from Frölunda HC will be here shortly to play on the Marlies before the season ends.

I'm more interested in how Nilsson's game translates to the NHL, but it's good to have any extra help for the Marlies going into the playoffs.

Not going out of my way, just thought it was amusing that Steve's first TLN post in weeks that wasn't an LFR or his podcast was just some very unimportant, trivial information that anybody with a twitter could've read. That's all.

Interesting part about this signing is the one year entry level contract.

One year ELCs are only allowed for players 24 years of age. Knodel, currently, is 23. The only way they got around this was by signing him to an ELC beginning next season, and signing him to a PTO for the remainder of this one.

It's always great when a mid-to-late round pick earns himself a contract, but getting him on a one-year as opposed to a two-year is pretty great.

Also, BLOO BLOO BLOO Millerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
