No one talks about the Detroit model for a few reasons:

1. It's boring... "You mean we need to hire smart, good people, and a good manager who puts those people into the right positions, and then listens to the advice from those people?" It's hard to hire smart people.

2. It takes a long time. How long has Thomas Tatar been in the AHL? How many teams could afford to wait to bring a player with his skill up to the NHL? And then how soon would he have flamed out because he hadn't built up the necessary skills and strength to be able to compete at such a high level in the NHL?

3. It isn't fashionable to like Detroit lately. Chicago, LA, Boston (to a degree Pittsburg) are the new hotness.
