The Los Angeles Kings win the game of the playoffs to become the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions! Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers fought valiantly but Alec Martinez iced it.

As a hockey fan, the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs were phenomenal. The only negative is that the Hawks and Kings was not the SCF. Lundqvist made the SCF a close 5 game series instead of a blowout sweep. What the Kings did to get to the SCF is remarkable - beating SJS, ANA and CHI in seven game series with all game sevens on the road. The Rangers never faced a team like that until the SCF and the Kings had already faced three in a row. I think the game were close because the Kings got bored.

As a Leafs fan, a bit depressing. The good news is that we are in the East. No way we can compete in the West. But what is most depressing are these four names (could find more but that might lead me to suicide) - Brandon Saad (drafted by the Blackhawks 43rd in 2011), Andrew Shaw (drafted 139th by the Blackhawks in 2011), Tyler Toffoli (drafted 47th by the Kings in 2010) and Tanner Pearson (drafted 30th by the Kings in 2011). All from the OHL. The Leafs do not have a single player of that age and skill. Why can the Kings and Hawks find these players in the Leafs backyard? While winning four Stanley Cups in that same period.

Here is the Leafs draft from 2011 - Their original first round choice (#6) went to Boston as part of the Kessel deal. It turned out to be Dougie Hamilton. 22 Tyler Biggs 25 Stuart Percey 86 Josh Levin 100 Tom Nilsson 130 Tony Cameranesi 152 David Broll 173 Dennis Robertson

Shanahan needs to retool the Leafs scouting and development program. I take no pride in the accomplishments of the Marlies. The purpose of the Marlies is to develop players for the Leafs. To win in the AHL, you need a few older, experienced guys taking the slots of young talent that you are developing. Stan Bowman was brutally honest about the expectations of Chicago's AHL affiliate in Rockford. It is to produce NHL caliber players - either for the Hawks or for the Hawks to turn into other assets.
