We've been waiting for this. It's a hockey Christmas of sorts. Time for the fresh blood to show us what they've got. Typically, the first day on the job, you just keep your head down and try to make sure no one important notices you mess up too terribly and regret hiring you, and remember the important logins.
Auston Matthews just strides in with a box of donuts for everyone, smiles and says "oh yeah this whole places is gonna be mine in three years." And somehow got a better parking spot than the CEO.
We're not even halfway into the second period and Matthews made the most of his first day on the job and put up a hat trick against the Ottawa Senators.

Second goal of his first NHL period.
Goal of the year finalist, probably.
Erik Karlsson is one of these defencemen.

Auston Matthews. Hat trick. 21 minutes into his career. Three shots. pic.twitter.com/YTt8DOalNY— Jeff Veillette (@JeffVeillette) October 13, 2016
Oh, and another one at the buzzer.
Auston Matthews becomes the first player in NHL history to score four goals in his first NHL game. Great feed from Nylander too. pic.twitter.com/nznJxzqA4L— Jeff Veillette (@JeffVeillette) October 13, 2016
What else is there to say?
