To say that watching the Leafs get shutout by the Detroit Red Wings is difficult to watch is understandable, but make no mistake - this was one of the most unwatchable games I've ever watched. Did you tape it? Going to watch it later? Don't. There are many more enjoyable activities you could be doing instead, such as paying the bills, or sorting the recycling.

It's nice that hockey is back, even if it was only a preseason game, and even if that preseason game wasn't that particularly thrilling. Facing off in London, Ontario, the Leafs defeated the Flyers this evening by a score of 3-2, digging a hole throughout the first half of the game (as is tradition), then fighting back to force overtime and eventually win it in a shootout (which isn't tradition at all).
It's great to see the Leafs get a win and all, but preseason games are fun for one fun reason and one fun reason only - watching guys earn their full time roster spot. That didn't really happen tonight, save for former top-pairing defender Korbinian Holzer, who I'd say took the early lead in winning that last 'D' spot.

Dave Nonis and Co. completed a little bit of house cleaning earlier today, cutting ten players from Leafs camp as the team prepares for a busy week of preseason action.

Back for a second stint with the team that drafted him, Matt Frattin is a Leaf once again. Thank God, because his chemistry with, uh, other, uh, people, uh, was quite clearly the missing ingredient in last year's disastrous season. Jokes aside, Frattin had a a rough season as well, and hopes to bounce back in a familiar setting.

After a strong showing at their Rookie Camp, the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed 18-year old blueliner Cody Donaghey to a three year entry level contract. One of the few non-Leafs who got invited to the team's main camp, Donaghey is a 6'1, 185lb offensive defenceman out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
