Leafs Prospect Update: November 11, 2013

Frederick Gauthier - C - Rimouski (QMJHL)

Despite not burying a puck in his past five games, Frederik Gauthier had a nice little weekend, contributing with three assists in two Rimouski victories. Gauthier's 19 points in 19 games is a significant reason why the Oceanic currently sit 5th in the QMJHL, with a 13-6-4 record.
 
In non-Rimouski news, Gauthier will be joining Team QMJHL in the Subway Super Series a week from today, as the top players in the league will take on a team of Russian Selects in Gatineau, Quebec. Assuming Gauthier sticks in the lineup for the second game, he’ll again play with Team QMJHL in Sherbrooke on the 20th. Last year, Team QMJHL and Russia split their two game series with a win apiece.

POSTGAME - Leafs Beat Devils in Shootout

In their first game since last Saturday’s clunker, the Maple Leafs returned to action with a 2-1 shootout win over the New Jersey Devils. With the victory, the Leafs improve to 11-5-0, and are tied with Pittsburgh and Tampa atop the Eastern Conference standings.

Connor Brown - RW - Erie (OHL)

Despite the Otters’ 11 game win streak coming to an end, winger Connor Brown had another big weekend. Brown netted a hat trick in a 6-0 Erie romp over the Niagara Ice Dogs, and added another goal and assist in a 6-2 loss to the London Knights. A five point weekend helped Brown strengthen his hold on the OHL scoring race - with 15 goals and 21 assists in 17 games, Brown’s 36 points is five up on second place.

And while the mountains of goals and assists are nice, Brown recently revealed in an interview with Hockey’s Future’s Jason Menard that it’s his plus-minus numbers that he gets excited about:
