Name: Nick Ritchie

Position: Left Wing

Height: 6’2

Weight: 226lbs

Junior Team: Peterborough (OHL)

Rankings: NHL CSS - 7th (NA), ISS - 10th, Justin’s List - 8th, Bobby’s List - 10th

I’ve spent more time talking about Nick Ritchie over the past few weeks than I’d like to admit. Amongst Leafs fans, who have taken exception to apparent “safe picks” made by Toronto with recent first round picks, there’s a very real paranoia surrounding the eighth overall pick.

“Like, what if they take Nick Ritchie? Isn’t he like Tyler Biggs 2.0?”

Um, no.

TLN Draft Profile: Brendan Perlini

Name: Brendan Perlini

Position: Left Wing

Height: 6’2

Weight: 205lbs

Junior Team: Niagara (OHL)

Rankings: NHL CSS - 8th (NA), ISS - 7th, Justin’s List - 11th, Bobby’s List - 13th

Forgive me, but this Brendan Perlini draft profile may sound a little familiar. Like many of the players expected to go in the first half of the opening round, Perlini is an offensively gifted winger with great speed and a great shot. This season, Perlini benefited from the likes of Ryan Strome and Brett Ritchie graduating to the pros, as he took on a much greater role on his Niagara Ice Dogs team. Forming instant chemistry with Leafs’ 2013 third round pick Carter Verhaeghe, Perlini scored an impressive 34 goals and 71 points in 58 games.

TLN Draft Profile: Haydn Fleury

Name: Haydn Fleury

Position: Defenseman

Height: 6'2

Weight: 202lbs

Junior Team: Red Deer (WHL)

Rankings: NHL CSS - 9th (NA), ISS - 12th, Justin's List - 10th, Bobby's List - 17th

Poor Haydn Fleury. The undisputed second-best defender in the draft (behind Aaron Ekblad of all people), and he's getting such little coverage. As a two-way defender, I can't say it's surprising that Fleury just isn't getting the attention that speedy, skilled forwards like Nikolaj Ehlers, William Nylander, Kevin Fiala and Robby Fabbri get.

Still, the big blueliner is a solid prospect in his own right. Fleury scored eight goals and 46 points in 70 games for the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL this past season. Internationally, Fleury picked up a bronze medal at the 2014 IIHF U-18 World Championships, and received 'Best Defenceman' honours for efforts.

TLN Draft Profile: Nikolaj Ehlers

Name: Nikolaj Ehlers

Position: Left Wing

Height: 5'10

Weight: 176lbs

Junior Team: Halifax (QMJHL)

Rankings: NHL CSS - 13th (NA), ISS - 11th, Justin's List - 7th, Bobby's List - 8th

Not all that much was known about Nikolaj Ehlers prior to this season. Playing nearly his entire junior career in Switzerland, and putting up solid numbers with Denmark's U18 and U20 squads, Ehlers only arrived in North America this year, suiting up for the Halifax of the QMJHL.

Did the Moosehead know what they were getting when they drafted him 6th overall in the 2013 CHL Import Draft? Geeze.

Ehlers took the league by storm, scoring 49 goals and 104 points in only 63 regular season games, good for fourth in league scoring, and another 28 points in 16 playoff appearances. For his efforts, Ehlers earned QMJHL Rookie of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Best Professional Prospect honours.

TLN Draft Profile: Michael Dal Colle

Name: Michael Dal Colle

Position: Left Wing

Height: 6’2

Weight: 182lbs

Junior Team: Oshawa (OHL)

Rankings: NHL CSS - 5th (NA), ISS - 3rd, Justin's List - 4th, Bobby's List - 6th

(Note: 'Sup? Bobby Cappucino and I will be posting draft profiles heading up to the 2014 NHL Draft, taking a closer look at who the Leafs will/should be taking a close look at. Here's the first one. You'll get one or two every day or so, so come back often and tell us who you love and who you hate.)

Michael Dal Colle is one of the 2014 Draft’s premier forward prospects, seen by many as just inches behind the likes of Sam Bennett and Sam Reinhart in the rankings. An offensively gifted winger with good size, Dal Colle went off this season for 39 goals and 56 assists while playing alongside Philadelphia Flyers prospect Scott Laughton.

Dal Colle’s 95 points in 67 games were good for 6th in OHL regular season scoring, but more impressive was his 20 points in 12 playoff games, finishing 7th in the playoff scoring race despite playing eight less games than the leading scorer.
