The NHL hasn't been covered by HBO's 24/7 in quite some time now, but in the lead-up to the Centennial Classic between the Leafs and Wings it looks like we'll get the next best thing: A similar documentary-style series by EPIX, which will likely be airing on Sportsnet for us here in Canada.

The Leafs' signing of Matt Martin this past offseason has been a point of contention for this fanbase since it happened, and likely will be for the entire four years he's in Toronto. With that said, as it stands right now, one side of that debate is clearly losing because even Martin's biggest supporters really can't point to anything tangible he's brought to this team so far. And for even his harshest critics it's probably unlikely they saw his contributions being this minuscule.

There are two interesting albeit minor storylines worth following in this early portion of the Leafs' season. One is the presence of Brandon Prust, who's seen his involvement with the club grow from a PTO cut to someone who hangs around the team to a regular now at practices and morning skates. It's worth keeping an eye on, because Prust could potentially work his way into a one-year deal, and of course the arguments in Leafland to follow will have the heat turned way up.
But far more intriguing than the hanging-on of Prust is the somewhat under-reported inclusion of goaltender Karri Ramo into the Toronto fold.

I don't know why Dougie Hamilton's name has crept up again in trade talks, but if there's anything to be learned from the last time it did, these situations can evolve into something quickly. [See also: P.K. Subban this past June.]
There seems to be plenty of debate among insiders and Flames fans alike about just how much substance there is to Calgary's willingness to ship Hamilton out, but as an outsider looking at things from the perspective of another team, I don't want to get too much into that. The name is out there for a reason. If Brad Treviling is fielding calls on this guy, Lou Lamoriello should be hopping on the phone as soon as possible.

Over the last few seasons, Leafs fans have probably spent a good amount of time being angry at P.K. Subban, but this year's a little different. While they'll surely want him to stay off the board this evening when the Preds visit Toronto, it's going to be fun to finally appreciate Subban's skill without having to see him in a divisional rival's sweater.
The Predators were off to a tough start in October, which only added fuel to the debate over this summer's monstrous trade that brought P.K. to Nashville, but they've started to make a climb this month. For the Leafs it's a difficult game against a team that was viewed as a contender in plenty of pre-season rankings.
