As the Toronto Maple Leafs prove to the mass of skeptics that they are, indeed, actually good, that same group has desperately searched for what the next step will be. Many in the mainstream media have agreed that acquiring a big-minute defenceman is important, and that the cost is likely going to be very steep.

Mark Spector of Sportsnet was the latest to weigh in yesterday.

Normally, a 0.757 team taking on a 0.485 team wouldn't be considered a matchup worth putting emphasis on, but when it's the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Toronto Marlies, that rule is broken. The two teams have been among the best in the league in controlling play late in the game, which made this a more promising matchup than the standings showed; it was too, but it ended in a narrow regulation defeat for the home team.

In case you didn't know already, Auston Matthews is an NHL All-Star and he's damn well sure of himself for it. Given the way the Leafs have played this year though, there were a few surprised that they didn't have more people participating; but that's a product of the system.

You know, when you think about the Leafs' goaltending saga for the last ten years, it becomes pretty obvious that it relies heavily on the same handful of teams and names. In fact, I don't know if the story has ever actually changed; we might just be shuffling the same Rubik's cube here again, again, and again.

Lou Lamoriello wants you to never sleep ever, apparently. The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Jhonas Enroth to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a pick in next year's NHL Entry Draft.
