Toronto Welcomes Two New Prospects to the Organization

After moving out a number of contracts before and at the March 2nd trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs used their roster flexibility to add two new prospects to the pipeline over the weekend.

On Friday, the Leafs announced the signing of 21-year old Nikita Soshnikov, an offensively-gifted winger out of Atlant Mytishchi of the KHL. The following day, Toronto made another splash in signing 23-year old centre, and prized college free agent Casey Bailey of Penn State.

Unlike the Leafs, who have nothing left to play for for and seem to be completely unravelling, tonight's Battle of Ontario carries major postseason implications for the Ottawa Senators.

With 12 games left in their season, the Senators sit exactly two points behind the Boston Bruins and the final Wild Card spot in the East, and with a game in hand. Now that the news has broke, we're seeing more and more quotes coming out of Soshnikov and the Russian media. Not that I know anything about him personally, but he's certainly saying all of the right things.

Now that the Leafs have nothing left to play for, is it time to use some of those post-trade deadline call ups?

There's 11 games left in the season, and since the Leafs have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, the organization might as well start taking a look at some of the minor league players in the system who could potentially be with the big club in 2015-16.

ICYMI, the Toronto Maple Leafs are a horrible hockey team.
