After continuing a string of horrific special teams results last year, Brian Burke took action this summer. Out went Tim Hunter and Keith "No Discernible Role" Acton and in came Greg Cronin and Scott Gordon. James Mirtle looked at the impact that both have had in a short time on what is accept as one of the team's most pressing areas of concern:

Chief among the duties the revamped coaching staff has is to fix Toronto’s penalty kill, which was 28th in the NHL last season and dead last in both 2009-10 and 2008-09.

But just how much of an impact will any improvements have on the team's chances this year?

The Leafs travel down the QEW to visit the Chamber of Horrors which has been renamed First Niagare Centre. The rematch against the Sabres will see Jonas Gustavsson play the full sixty minutes against fellow European Jhonas Enroth.

Ottawa Senators: Low Hanging Fruit

The Ottawa Senators have not had the best possible offseason. They are a rebuilding team but signed a competent but unproven goalie (ask the Leafs how that works out for your draft pick), they hired another first-time NHL coach who will keep the seat warm for Bryan Murray for at least a few months, and they are still owned by Eugene Melnyk.

But could things get worse? Sure, look at the image above. They can always get worse.

Leafs 4 - Flyers 2: Jody Shelley Is A Scumbag

As if hockey fans needed any reminder that garbage players like Jody Shelley do not belong in the NHL. Thankfully, for those that still refuse to acknowledge reality, a hearty reality check was in place. Twitter blew up as there were a number of dirty hits in the NHL tonight and unfortunately, Darryl Boyce was a victim. The strange thing is that the Leafs iced noted pugilist Colton Orr and his understudy Jay Rosehill and yet despite that deterrent famed scumbag Jody Shelley from laying a blatant hit from behind.

James Reimer's Rookie Season Comparables

Previously, Chemmy took a look at Nazem Kadri's rookie season and came up with a list of comparables that put his season in a better light. His comparables certainly offered some optimism about Kadri's future in the NHL. This season, he'll have the opportunity to make a big impact on the Leafs' future.
