The End of the First Round

March 21 2011 08:27AM

Though Boston has two games in hand their recent skid has allowed the Montreal Canadiens to close the gap on the Northeast division to a single point. As much as we hate the Habs I'm pretty sure we also hate the Bruins so cheering for one or the other based on a sweater is a chore deserved only by Senators fans. Here's the wrinkle: the Leafs hold Boston's draft pick.

Just as Bruins fans would root for Montreal to beat the Leafs to better the draft pick we gave them, Leafs fans should root for Montreal to win the Northeast. Now before you declare me Steve Lansky 2.0 follow me across the jump to see why.

Pension Plan Puppets

It is rare for a college player to be dismissed from their school team entirely and make a comeback. Generally, it means that the player has to find another school to take them in or they move along to some level of the professional ranks. Mikhail Grabovski remains the top dog on the Leafs, as he still leads all regulars in scoring chance differential at even strength.  He has also excelled on the PK, too, since earning more icetime there.  His usual wingers, Kulemin and MacArthur, have had their numbers at EV remain steady as well since the last update 23 games ago.

Read on to view the Toronto Maple Leafs' scoring chances by individual players through March 17, 2011.  Scoring chances have been recorded by myself for all but three Leafs' games, two were recorded by Derek Zona and George Ays (one each), and one has gone unrecorded (game #18 vs. New Jersey).
