It’s highly appropriate that the Leafs and Canadiens face each other on Saturday night in Montreal. Prior to the game, there will be a wonderful moment to remember a storied individual with both franchises, the late Pat Burns. While on this earth, Pat was denied the honour of a Hockey Hall of Fame induction. Saturday night will be a small measure of respect for someone who deserved so much more.

Tuesday night at Air Canada Centre, as Marcel Goc laid a shorthanded, stick-side deke on J-S Giguère (after a ghastly Brett Lebda) giveaway, to make the score 4-1 in favour of the Nashville Predators, there was absolutely no indication of what was to come.

Without warning, the Predators imploded.

Once upon a time, the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking to hire the best executive available to return to team to its rightful spot atop of the NHL. Many names were considered including that of Predators General Manager David Poile. Ultimately Brian Burke, for better or for worse is still up in the air, landed the top job but what did the Leafs miss out on?
