Unlike the Leafs, who have nothing left to play for for and seem to be completely unravelling, tonight's Battle of Ontario carries major postseason implications for the Ottawa Senators.

With 12 games left in their season, the Senators sit exactly two points behind the Boston Bruins and the final Wild Card spot in the East, and with a game in hand. Ottawa has won five in a row and is 8-1-1 in their past 10 games, so hosting one of the worst teams in hockey at home on a Saturday night is a prime opportunity to jump into the playoffs. They just need to watch out for the #PeskyLeafs.

As you may have heard by now, the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed free agent Russian winger Nikita Soshnikov to a three-year entry level contract. Most recently, the 21-year old Soshnikov played for Atlant Mytishchi in the KHL, scoring 14 goals and 32 points in 57 games played. That points total was fourth best among U24 players in the league.

Well, the Toronto Marlies have made the playoffs three years in a row, and this team is younger than its ever been. Does year in disappointment? The team would hope not, but they need wins to avoid it. Tonight, they faced the Lake Erie Monsters, who I will compare to Darth Vader solely because they wear black on the road. Not only that, but they won the game, too, in an overtime thriller.

One of the great things about having a pre-deadline fire sale is that it leaves you with some extra contract spots. With those, you can take a few chances on players with potential upside. The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to understand this, and as such, have signe free agent Nikita Soshnikov to a three-year Entry Level Contract.
