New Year, same ol' Power Rankings, which is to say the same ol' most excellent thing you'll read all Monday. The Leafs have started 2016 the way you'd hope, with a big win over a top team in the league and a trade that acts as an amuse-bouche for what should be an exciting main course at the trade deadline.
For now we'll focus on the week that was, and it was another encouraging week for those who would rather see the Leafs systems working over plummeting to the bottom of the league. After watching some of the World Juniors, I hope that people have realized this is another deep draft and the Leafs don't need to be at the absolute bottom to walkaway from it successfully.

Kerby Rychel wants out of Columbus- this much is known. Where to, exactly, is anyone's best guess.
An article by Aaron Portzline reports that Toronto is among one of at least seven teams who have expressed interest in the 2013 first round pick after his trade request. With that many options, it seems like Columbus is most likely to wait for a perfect offer before giving up on a guy who's supposed to be among their top prospects. However, as in any trade deal, they may be forced to undersell.

As Leafs fans, we're contractually obligated (it's written in tears) to speculate on a trade for any name that comes along in the rumour mill. This week's surprising news of Jonathan Drouin wanting out of Tampa Bay presents some easy material, and as you may have guessed, we've already been all over it from a Toronto perspective.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have shaken up the depth chart a bit today, sending right winger Richard Panik to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Jeremy Morin. Both players are 24-year-old second-round picks from the 2009 entry draft and have been playing for their American Hockey League affiliates all season.
