Connor Brown - RW - Erie (OHL)

Despite the Otters’ 11 game win streak coming to an end, winger Connor Brown had another big weekend. Brown netted a hat trick in a 6-0 Erie romp over the Niagara Ice Dogs, and added another goal and assist in a 6-2 loss to the London Knights. A five point weekend helped Brown strengthen his hold on the OHL scoring race - with 15 goals and 21 assists in 17 games, Brown’s 36 points is five up on second place.

And while the mountains of goals and assists are nice, Brown recently revealed in an interview with Hockey’s Future’s Jason Menard that it’s his plus-minus numbers that he gets excited about:

You ever go on a never-ending YouTube journey until four in the morning? Well you're about to go on one.

While on a trip to Edmonton with the fine folks at Oilers Nation last week, we visited the West Edmonton Mall. While walking around, we came across an indoor ice rink right in the middle of the mall. I had heard of this place in interviews with Jordan Eberle and Steven Stamkos in the past. I realized that this is where The Brick Tournament is played.

I mentioned that it would be really cool to see footage of guys like Eberle and Stamkos as kids playing novice. Not long after, Avry showed me that not only is there footage - there's tonnes of it!

Check these gems out!

Remember this guy? I remember this guy quite well.

I've seen many Leafs games live, but there's only one I can remember where a player scored a hat trick. That player was none other than Boyd Devereaux.

Leafs fans owe him a big thank you.

Plugging a short-term hole at centre

The timeline for David Bolland's injury could range anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Erik Karlsson missed 31 games when his left achilles was lacerated last season on a similar play to the one that felled Bolland in Vancouver. Other recent examples are Vancouver's Kevin Bieksa missing 27 games to a leg laceration in 2009-2010, and Carolina's Cam Ward missing 13 games in the same season.

We haven't been updated yet on the severity of the injury, but it's probably a foregone conclusion that Bolland will be put on the long-term injured reserve shortly. That would keep him out until at least November 29th against Buffalo, but that's an optimistic date to circle on the calendar given how serious the injury looked at the time and the immediacy of the surgery. Bolland couldn't put any weight on his leg being taken off the ice.

So what to do at centre? Tyler Bozak is out for at least six more contests so the team is down to just Jay McClement, Nazem Kadri, and Trevor Smith.
