I don’t think Bozak is a #1 center in the traditional sense, but he’s the center on a #1 line (if this makes sense); similar to Brandan Morrison when he was between Markus Naslund and Todd Bertuzzi. Kessle and JvR are both stars on the offensive end and Bozak has the skills and speed to keep up with them. However, he also handles all of the defensive responsibilities, allowing Kessel and JvR to only worry about being awesome. Kulemin plays a similar role when he’s deployed with Kadri and Lupul (a much better fit than Clarkson imo).

The real question is whether Bozak can keep this up. Honestly, probably not. I don’t think any of us expect him to be a 0.9 points per game player (his shooting percentages are unsustainable), but if he can maintain 0.75 ppg while doing the “little things,” the Leafs have themselves a legit #1 line. Kunitz isn’t a #1 LW on 29 other teams, but he is when he’s playing with Crosby. Similarly, Bozak is a good two-way player who is being elevated by elite linemates.

Personally, I’d rather have Stastny on the top line, but I can’t argue with results. Bozzy has been fantastic this year when he’s been healthy. I just hope Nonis doesn’t use Bozak’s season as an excuse to trade Kadri.

On Bozak, hes still not that no 1 guy and will in all likely hood never will be. However he is playing well enough (albeit with two of the finer players in the league either side of him) for the no 1 C not being the biggest issue/priority. Could you win a cup with JVR/BOZIE/KESSEL as your first line? Suuure could, but errrr not with that defense, thats the big issue now.

On the trade deadline, nooo biggy, bit jealous of some of the pieces MTL got but we all knew with the salary cap it was not going to make it easier for Nonis to move much. Big big big summer though!

All I can say is I feel bad for Reimer, I was really hoping he would have gone from this selfish, disrespectable, team of Bernier lovers and went to a team where he could be a great respected #1 Goalie and not treated like the gum on the bottom of this teams shoe….
So now lets abuse and use him some more whenever God thinking Randy and Nonis seem willed to do so, or when their bed buddy Bernier messes up again….SAD SAD SAD….

      Reimer deserved better than this….

Can the Leafs win the Cup with Bozak as the #1 centre? Sure, why not?

The real question is ‘is this the New Normal for Bozak, or is this his Career Year?’ His career average is 20-30-50; this year works out to 29-47-76 over 82 games played. The latter is a legit #1 centre for a contender in this era of the NHL; the former is not.

It really doesn’t matter, of course; without a legit shutdown pairing the Leafs aren’t contenders.

    Like the new digs, BTW.
