With their last pick in the draft, the Leafs selected Swedish winger Pierre Engvall out of Frolunda’s J20 SuperElit team. At 6’4, 190lbs, Toronto waited until the 7th round, 188th overall to draft size – and they’ll be getting some skill to go along with it.
In 39 games with Frolunda’s J20 squad, Engvall scored 17 goals and 35 points. He also spent a total of 16 games with the J18 team, scoring an impressive 11 goals and 36 points.
“At 6-foot-4, he is a very good
skater. He doesn’t have that superb vision you look for in a top-level playmaker, but he still gets
the job done with good puck distribution, strong accuracy to his passes, and his excellent reach
and size… His development over the course of the
season has been phenomenal. He’s using his strengths more to his advantage, and has started
to play more physically. NHL POTENTIAL: Top-Nine Two-Way Winger”
Hey have to have faith in the Swedish pick. Got to be another Bergman pick there and he is pretty good at spotting the talent.
Will see how he turns out.
Why the big fall in Euro rankings though? He was 36 in the midterm, and 91 in the final rankings. What happened??
