How confident I am in Reimer depends on how healthy he actually is. Postgame he admitted that he had his bell rung when Stoll collided with his “shoulder” and had a bit of a headache. He played awesome that game, true, but if he actually has a concussion (even a mild one) I’m not too confident that he can play consistently at a high level.

Maybe its just me, but it seems whenever Reimer plays his own players and the team their playing against always seem to crowd him and alot of times it actually looks like their aiming for his head area…just an observation, it’ like they know his weakness is this area and he seems to get attcked alot latley…

I am not worried at all, compared to Bernier he has what it takes and if he ever pushed the frigging players out of the way, it would be a whole different game….
      Just love this guy…awesome……

I’m confident with Reimer. If fact, just like his team, he calms me when he’s in net. He’s been cold because he hasn’t gotten many starts in the last 3 months. Remember, he dragged this team to the playoffs and game 7 with Boston by himself, the first man to do so in almost a decade. Of course because of this, mangt has been trying to get rid of him. Rumors of Kipper and Lulongo, being brought in to “help him”. Then they trade for a guy, pay him double what they’re paying Reimer and, “what a surprise,” he gets usurped by the new guy. There is only so much pressure a man can take especially a goalie. He has a few bad games and voila, he’s now a back up, even though his save% is .914. I still don’t see any reason for why Bernier gets the nod over Reimer. That is not to say I think Bernier is bad, he’s excellent, I just think Reimer is as good if not better for 2 reasons, he’s bigger, and he is unflappable. Bernier being hurt would be very bad, that would mean that we only have Reimer, so I don’t want Bernier to be hurt but if he is and Reimer has to play each of the last 14 games, I still say we play over .500 and he gets us to the playoffs, and beyond.

“I still don’t see any reason for why Bernier gets the nod over Reimer”

      Really? I do… Bernier has been better… All season… For longer stretches… I mean, you list Reimer’s .914 but don’t also mention Bernier’s .925?

Reimer’s been pulled multiple times or had the score run up on him. He’s allowed 6 goals in three separate games this season (only 27 games played). He has a GAA above three. He was given every opportunity to win the starting job. They wouldn’t even call Bernier the starter for months trying to give Reimer a chance to win it back. He didn’t.

The issue isn’t that James Reimer doesn’t have a lot of potential or can’t play great, he can and has. Reimer can be a great goalie sometimes… but not consistently. That is Reimer’s biggest issue. Reimer is inconsistent. You never really know what kind of game you’ll get from him.

Bernier on the other hand has been very consistent. His save percentage is 5th in the league, his GAA is under 3, he’s allowed 5 or more goals in only four games (50 played) and is a legitimate contender for a Vezina nomination.

      He’s been incredible.

And, I may get flamed for this, and people may not like to hear it, but, Bernier this season is having as good (if not slightly better) a season as Reimer had last season when everyone anointed him the greatest Leaf goalie in a decade. And Bernier is facing far more shots per game and has played 17 more games.

The team is better with Bernier in net this season. They’re going to finish 2nd in the division and have a home playoff series, in no small part due to Bernier.

So, I think it’s a bit crazy to say “I don’t see any reason”… There are reasons… Big ones… Big as a James Reimer rebound… (just kidding, I know his rebound control is a touchy subject around here).
