Talking about your reptilian brain, sticking up for yourself, and at least showing up.

Backes wass drafted 62nd overall. Marner/Kadri/Nylander are guys that you can only find in the top 5 of a draft. Top 10 if its a deep draft. Save the big body/power forward/low skill guys for the later rounds.

    Backes >>>> Kadri

Championship teams aren’t determined by draft position, great teams (i.e. not the current historically bad Leafs feature Nazem Kadri) have skill and size. Size + Talent = contention, Talent alone = nothing.

Giroux is maybe the best small 1C in the league and Philly suck and he Claudia couldn’t even make team Canada.

Size matters, I’ll never understand why internet fans ignore this.

No contending team would have Kadri in their top six so just move on already.

Wanna tell that to guys like Martin St.Louis Patrick Kane, and Marchant who are awesome NHL players who all have won Stanley Cups and have played for their respective Countries and won medals???

      • CMpuck

Marty St.Louis….. was Vinny and Richards lil helper…. Patrick 1st overall Kane is the third best player on his team….

If you’re not big enough you’re not the best player on your team unless your team suuuuuuuuuuucks i.e. Claude Giroux or Phil tradebait/social interaction is supposed to get easier as you age but it’s still hard for lil ol’ me Kessel….

One day I’ll get an intelligent response on the ‘Dah Leefs Nation go Leefz go’ not holding my breath though.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have a team of Lindros’ and Charas with Pekka Rinne in net (all huge skill guys). But those people can sometimes be hard to draft (see: Biggs, Tyler).

But with this specific draft, where the Leafs will pick in the 3-7 range, the only “big skill forward” is Crouse. But wouldn’t you rather add a ppg small forward over a .5ppg big forward?

U know u r team is azz when the mouth kadris ur top Centre, ur turk u Lance and teststorn comes from Kessel and Gardners ur best player 4 years running during the collapse, and gets a juicy contract entension by noobnis in year 3. Wow, u can’t make this shi× up

Ummm, I get that you might say Toews > Kane, but who’s the second guy? Even Toews might be a tough sell.

We’ve been through this a thousand times, previous management thought exactly like you, and what did it get is in the draft? Career ECHL’er Ty Biggs, AHL guys like Devane, Ross? It’s great to have those big guys with skill, but the thing is that they are also a huge risk in drafting. Do they only succeed because they’re big when playing in junior? I’d rather draft the Kanes and the Nylanders in first round and try for the Lucics and Backes’ in later rounds, when the risks aren’t so big. You can always trade for the PF:s for those skillplayers you’ve acquired.

    • CMpuck

Lol, we’re going to compare top ten picks to late round firsts like Biggs? Derp?

I love that we all laugh at dumb Edmonton’s rebuild but the majority of people posting on this site endorses making the same mistakes, let’s draft a soft skill forward like RNH or Yakupov. Previous management built around Kessel, how is that working out? Skill on the wing huh.

You can trade for a 1C with size? Big centers with talent make contenders. Marners don’t make the Leafs better.

Let’s waste a lottery pick on Marner a guy that even hits his ceiling is useless worst than that a top six with Kadri, Nylander, Marner, that team can’t make the playoffs.

Leafs take Marner over Provorov then it’s proof there is no blueprint or foresight for this team.
