WWYDW: Build-A-Team

“Who am I going to pick!?!?!?” – Mike Babcock, probably.

We’re exactly one week away from NHL regular season hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ opening night roster has yet to be defined. Here at TLN, we’re a very impatient, know-it-all bunch – we don’t want to wait until next Tuesday to find out what the roster is. We want rosters now, dammit – and that’s why we’re polling our beautiful and handsome readers (that’s you!).

Let’s hear it in the comments, then – who should make the Leafs to start the season? What does your 23-man roster look like, and who lines up with who? Does Nylander make it? Does Harrington? Does Robidas get sent to the Marlies? Does Kadri start on the top line?

The winner with the most thumbs up gets absolutely nothing. The loser with the most thumbs down will feel great shame.

Also, stay tuned over the next couple days as some of our very own TLN writers post their ideal lineups and passionately defend them in the comments section!

The Toronto Maple Leafs opening night roster will look nothing like their roster after the trade deadline. Anybody marked with a asterisk is a pending UFA. Most of those players will be dealt at the trade deadline for Draft Picks. The possibility of moving Joffery Lupul or Tyler Bozak could also be likely. The Leafs have 11 Picks in 2016, and 6 in 2017. Stockpiling draft picks for both those drafts will really help this rebuild moving forward. Any of the contracts moved will have to be replaced, likely call ups from the Toronto Marlies. I imagine players like William Nylander, Kasperi Kapanen, Connor Brown, Stuart Percy and Scott Harrington will be ready for NHL action by then. The Leafs will slowly intergrate their NHL ready prospects into the lineup. This roster will slowly turnover from pending UFA’s to homegrown talent.

I personally believe that Nylander should make the Leafs, my competitive side is telling me that but then my patient side along with this management group on developing young players makes me want him to go back down to the Marlies. I know they will make the right decision.. It’s just hard cuz he LOOKS SO READY it’s insane.. He was the best player on the ice most of the preseason. :/ Lolz

This is what I think the roster will be opening night but I do expect it to be constantly changing during the year:

    JVR-Bozak-Boyes
    Matthias-Kadri-Lupul
    Komarov-Holland-Parenteau
    Winnik-Spaling-Grabner

    Reilly-Gardner
    Hunwick-Phaneuf
    Marincin-Polak

Press box is: Panik, Robidas, Brennan

I have 8 defenseman on the roster because that’s what Babcock said he wants and likes to have.

    Reimer, Bernier
