  • For Pete's Sake!

    Happy New Year everyone!

I have to say, I loved Adam’s article on Martin Marincin.

When he played here in Edmonton you could see the potential in him to become a good Dman. He was big and could skate well although he was never very aggressive. But he didn’t make many mistakes like many other Oiler defensemen. He played a smart game.

Like many other young Oiler players his play deteriorated under Dallas Eakins. Something about Eakin’s coaching style just seemed to sap many young player’s confidence.

I’m glad to see he’s doing well under Mike Babcock’s tutelage in Toronto. Wish we had kept him seeing how he’s playing now.

Happy new year to all Habs & Oilers fans.

    Oilers…. where to start?

They’re pro-rated to MAYBE 70 pts, very sub .500 while right now AGAIN dead last in west.

Have you all noticed that the goals for are still not what is expected by that young core.

Will this season be a definite “developmental year” and MacT was right? Despite of improved coaching & GM?

No playoffs this spring. Should draft top 5 in June. Even if McDavid plays 40-45 games for 50 pts his progress to 90 pts season next year is in doubt.

This team will suck again next season (that’s until October 2017).

Oilers give their fans another Xmas wish as they lose to get another high draft pick this year . Bottom 4 would insure a big power forward with skill in Matthews , Laine , Puljujarvi or Tkachuk . If fifth worse then defenseman Chychun .

the league needs to implement the following restriction:

only one 1st, one 2nd, one 3rd, one 4th, and one 5th overall pick per any five years rolling time frame, and never more than 2 top five picks per any 5 year rolling.

nobody ever conceived that a franchise could be so horrible for so long that they would get top 5 for ten+ years running.

The Oilers have screwed it up for everyone and are forcing the league to make even more changes, which penalizes teams like the Flames and others who are trying to rebuild the right way.

Any better ideas? even Oiler fans realize they have messed up the system and yet have not made any progress, in fact have gotten worse.

Is it time to force an ownership change? team contraction, or relegation? How can you let a team like this just continue for 10+ years to take the first overall and not get better… screws everyone, most of all Oiler fans.

    • For Pete's Sake!

You know, I actually agree with you. I think the Stanley Cup champion should be rewarded with the first pick as a reward for excellence.

I thought the same during the 1980’s. Did you Jeff?

      • RedMan

        No, I didn’t.

I never watched hockey as a kid, growing up in the Mojave desert. I didn’t start watching hockey until 2001. 🙂 so therefore i don’t understand the nuances of your comment (regarding the 80’s), which appear to be there.

          • MorningOwl

Actually, I’ve witnessed lots of winning in calgary – just look at the Flames record over the Oilers during this period… it’s ridiculous! HAHA

and if you think it’s been bad for Flames fans, that’s nothing compared to what Oiler fans have been through during the same period, right?

  • RedMan

Nice to read about how another defenceman is doing well and appreciated by his new team. Petry and marincin would sure look better in orange and blue this year then Nikitin, Fayne, Ference, Shultz and Gryba. Reinhart gets a pass as he is still developing.
