LGD: Buffalow in the Standings

The Buffalo Sabres lose out on a lot of things. They lost out on Connor McDavid, they lost out on Mike Babcock, and they’ve lost pretty much every game they’ve played in the past several years. Those hoping for the tank to roll steady, though, know that the Sabres have been relatively good at securing rare victories against the Blue and White. Tonight, the two teams square off once again.

The Leafs

The bad news is that these lines are slightly out of date. The good news? ITS GOAT TIME! Frederik Gauthier will play his first NHL game tonight after being recalled on an emergency basis this morning. He’ll be on a line with Josh Leivo, who has also been called up, and Connor Brown.

I don’t know if there’s a place that will let you place a prop bet on “Brian Gionta does something dumb to whoever is in the Leafs net”, but if you can find a place, drop in your life savings.

Starting Goaltenders

Garret Sparks gets the start for the Leafs tonight. His last few performances have dipped his season-wide numbers closer to what you’d expect out of, well, a 22-year old rookie, but that’s the beauty of a no-expectation to the end of the season – he can learn and adjust with minimal risk.

Chad Johnson, on the other hand, is on the opposite site of the spectrum. He’s a seasoned vet making one last push at being an NHL regular, and boy, has he done a hell of a job this year. He’s a 0.920 over 37 games and has won four of his last five.
