Calgarynext looks dead in the water. At least they should build a feildhouse for the people of Calgary to use. That would be a start ,seeing that they are the only major city in Canada not to have one.

You must be of simple mind. This is just step 1 of a process to develop a solution that is in the best interest of all stakeholders. Unlike the deal in Edm where Katz forced his position onto the city and they surrendered to a greedy owner and accepted an extremely one sided deal. The financial benefits of the ICE Distract are completely in favor of Katz at the expense of every Edmontonian. The process underway in Calgary is one that will ensure the maximum benefit to the people of Calgary as well, not just a recluse billionaire who cares only of himself.

What are you talking about ? The downtown core is going to be absolutely revitalized with the addition of Rogers place and it will help every business and every Edmontonian that cares to take advantage of it.
In five years nobody will recognize downtown Edmonton.

        • OTOF2

I am not surprised that you missed the point. I did not say Rogers Arena / The Ice District is bad for Edmonton, it’s the terms of the deal that I do not agree with. There are many reasons why the financial terms of the deal stink for the city and Edmontonians but I doubt you will understand them so I won’t even go there. What you might understand is that even though the arena is largely tax subsidized Katz controls who can use it and wouldn’t let the Rush play there. So the Rush left. Now we don’t have a Lacrosse team. The reason Katz wouldn’t let the Rush play there was a personal reason and it is embarrassing that this happened. Now the fans miss out not having Lacrosse. What’s next, Katz won’t let certain artists or bands play at Rogers because he doesn’t like them? It’s a complete joke.

Is not like the West End is either sports facilities or nothing. Once remediation is done there will be high end development with a solid tax base. What ties the Crowchild Bridge to an arena? If the City is paying a big chunk of CalgaryNext, use that allocated money for public infrastructure.

if they do so! Le’ts see. There is always a difference between what politics are saying and what they actually are doing! But this would be a great deal!
I prefere to dailyfaceoff! However that Katz didn’t let them play out of personal reasons.. sry where is this going!
