New Leafs starting netminder Frederik Andersen has had a rough start to his season.
Andersen, acquired in a June trade with the Anaheim Ducks, has been playing for Denmark in Olympic qualifying games, where he appears to have suffered an injury.
As pointed out by @A_Kalnins, Frederik Andersen was pulled late in Denmark’s Olympic qualifier vs. Slovenia after colliding with a teammate.

Not much is known at this point, other than that he’s injured and he’s left the game.
It could be a minor injury, in which case Andersen should likely be good to go for the Leafs come training camp, or it could be serious, in which case the Leafs are in major trouble, with Jhonas Enroth being the only capable NHL goalie in their organization.
Andersen is also slated to compete for the starter’s job for Team Europe in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, which begins in two weeks.
We’ll have to wait for further details to discern whether the injury has serious implications for his availability with both Team Europe and the Leafs.
UPDATE: Here’s the play that forced Andersen from the game:

If Anderson is out for an length of time, the Leafs will be looking at another lottery pick, perhaps fighting with Vancouver and Edmonton for 30th overall.
I wonder if McDavid will grow tired of the BS in Edmonton and force a trade after his entry level contract expires. How many times can you finish last even with the best player in the world? With Chirelli there you know he is going to screw up the cap eventually…
Mathews for McDavid? Perhaps if Edmonton can’t sign him they will be forced to accept whatever Is offered. After his entry level contract expires, McDavid can always go play in the KHL until he forces a trade.
have you watched Mathews highligts from the world cup. Mathews was the better player. you can keep Mcdavid thank you. what’s done is done.
Haha, dream big I guess right. Mcdavid is an oiler and always will be unfortunately
Great. Leafs’ player injured for some contrived event that feels more corporate than international. What a waste.
He was actually injured in an Olympic qualifying game, so less contrived than the World Cup. (I’ll agree on the corporate feel though!)
Good point.
Because we can’t have Toronto without a goaltending controversy, Andersen will be out until December, at which point Enroth is a very solid .915 SV% but Sparks is a .925 and has seized the starting role for the surprisingly playoff-spotted Leafs.
Ya, then you wake up and it’s reality. Yikes!
Cancel the parade.
I wonder how cheap it would be to get Johnathan Bernier I heard he was a first round draft pick
pull Enroth out of the world cup and batten down the hatches
Everyone relax. If you watched the full video stream you’d see that he skated off on his own accord just fine. He probably didn’t want to risk anything playing a seemingly meaningless game. He’ll be ready in 6 weeks for the opener.
Did we save the receipt on Reimer?
probably nothing.
please be nothing.
it’s nothing right?
It appears to be an upper body injury, possible right shoulder maybe based on the way he fell.

Out one to two weeks, smaller leasion(spelled??) in the shoulder, shipped back to Toronto ASAP.
that’s so leafs. welp, enroth should perform great in his absence. he may get the games he wants now.
