Thursday will be Blue and White day in Toronto

While we all nervously await the start of the first round series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals, those who pull the strings in town have done their best to make the whole ordeal as festive as possible. Today, Toronto Mayor John Tory made this proclamation.

Proclaimed temporary holidays aren’t the most uncommon thing in the world (I once volunteered for a charity that got its own day in Edmonton both times I toured with them, which was fun bragging rights), but they’re still cool to see. It ensures that the team knows that everyone in town has their backs, and encourages interest from on-the-fence locals in the team.

Basically, it’s the best move that Tory has made for the Leafs in a long time; certainly a step up from offering Steven Stamkos a hat.

I tend to agree Gary and hopefully we can return some of the punishment that Washington gave to us in the last meeting making them black and blue from the physical play that will indeed be necessary in the playoffs.

Sounds like brother Luke has his playoff game face on. No more of that regular season turn the other cheek stuff. More like an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

A key factor will be a healthy Andersen standing on his head in the series. But I don’t want to see early in the game some sweaty Capital putting Andersen literally on his head. Babcock of course is use to those clean, efficient Red Wing teams. But war has been declared on Andersen and goalies in general.
Let me illustrate a case, Most of us would consider Toews to be in the top 5 of best players and in the playoffs he is top 3. So late in the year the Hawks are playing the hopeless Canuckleheads at home and the game goes into o.t. Now Toews is out on a three on three shift and is parallel to the Canuck goalie Ryan Miller. With out the puck Toews makes a bee line for Miller and just drills him with a hard check. Naturally he got penalised and the Canucks scored the o.t. winner being 4 on 3. To me it was truly a goofy move by Toews as he cost the point but also could have hurt himself. But guys will do anything now to win as we have seen by slashes to the hands, wrists, spears in the nether region and of course running goalies. The leafs simply have to fight fire with fire. Our young superstar can’t be having Martin coming to his aid when an opposition goon drills Auston into the opposition’s net as happened in a recent game. Guys who are lady byng candidates will have to grow a pair for us to have any chance against the Capitals. Go leafs Go.
