Can the Oilers afford to keep Jesse if he pans out as well as Leon or P.Laine in next year or two? For that matter , can Oilers now afford realistically another tier one elite player for quite some time ?
The Penguins have Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and Letang. There is no reason (except maybe poor management) why the Oilers couldn’t do it.
1.2 Mill of Kessel`s 8mill salary is retained salary for the next 5 seasons, Malkin and Crosby salary combined is 18.2mill cap hit . Not saying the Oilers can`t do it , but someone will have to go next year, like RNH to balance the books
