Auston Matthews named NHL’s first star of opening week

Leafs bias, much?

Today, the NHL announced that Auston Matthews was named the league’s first star of the week, after coming out on the scene with five goals and three assists in the Leafs’ first three games of the season.

Matthews recorded the Leafs’ first goal of the season and an overtime winner on opening night against Montreal, before .scoring in a losing effort on Saturday in Ottawa.

He potted twice in last night’s victory, which you can read more about here:

Oh, and he’s also added three assists for good measure.

Pretty solid performance by the Leafs where John Tavares records a hat-trick, and another opening night goal, and doesn’t even crack the list as the best player on the team.

Auston’s made this list thrice before, and if we had to hazard a guess… probably would again:

Things are fun in Leafland right now.
