Last week we learned that Brendan Shanahan has the blessing of the MLSE board to blow up the Leafs’ current roster and start anew. Since then, pending free agents Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli were dealt to Nashville, and the names of Daniel Winnik, Tyler Bozak, Dion Phaneuf, Phil Kessel and Roman Polak have all appeared in trade rumours as the deadline approaches.
It’s pretty clear that the demolition job will happen, but there has to be roster carryover, no?
You’re a special assistant to the big man himself, Mr. Shanahan. He’s informed you that he plans on tearing down the team, but understands that there may be certain players worth keeping… maybe a Morgan Rielly, or a Nazem Kadri. Or a James van Riemsdyk or Jake Gardiner.
Shanahan has asked you to think about which current Leafs players are worth holding on to as he plans the future of the franchise.
Simply put, who’s untouchable?
You can suggest as many or as few players to keep around as you’d like, or simply say that everyone should go. Let me know what you think in the comments below. The person with the most thumbs up gets traded to Nashville, while the person with the most thumbs down gets to stay a Leaf forever.
