Leafs win! It feels good to write that. Makes me feel like I haven’t cursed this team by only writing losing postgames. The Toronto Maple Leafs take a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers in regulation.
THE RUNDOWN
- Frederik Andersen in net for the Maple Leafs, and Roberto Luongo in net for the Panthers.
- Jonathan Marchessault strikes first with a feed from Jagr. 1-0 Panthers.
- Andersen staying solid in the first, making some good saves.
- Tyler Bozak ties it up from Nikita Zaitsev and Mitch Marner. 1-1 tied.
- William Nylander with an easily avoidable tripping penalty early in the second, followed up by an easily avoidable too-many-men penalty halfway through the second gave the special teams a workout.
- Marchessault scores his second 4 minutes into the second. 2-1 Panthers.
- Van Riemsdyk (assisted by Marner) scores halfway through the second, just seconds left in the too-many-men penalty, tying it up. 2-2 tied.
- Marner and Nazem Kadri set up Bozak for his second of the night. 3-2 Maple Leafs.
- Marner is called for hooking early in the third.
- Leafs win!
BLUE WARRIOR
Tonight’s Blue Warrior is Mitch Marner. Good Lord, can that kid move. Marner assisted on every single Leafs goal tonight, racking up a 3 point game, and his first multi-point NHL game. Marner was all over the ice, setting himself up for scoring chances, setting up his linemates for scoring chances. He was the Oprah of scoring chances tonight. A+ Mitch Marner.
SHOUTOUT
Tonight’s shoutout goes to Tyler Bozak. Last season, everyone and their mother (myself included, I’m not exempt) were calling for either his head or his cap space. This season so far, Bozak has done well for himself. He scored 2 out of tonight’s 3 goals, and although he’s been a bit overshadowed by the likes of Marner, Nylander, and Matthews… Bozak is looking to come a fair way from the player we were all calling to trade for a bag of pucks last year.
COMING UP NEXT
