According to TSN’s Rick Westhead, the Air Canada Centre will have a new name come July of next year.
MLSE signs deal with major Canadian bank. Air Canada Centre name to change July 1, 2018. Story up shortly at TSN.ca.
It appears as though the bank Westhead was referring to is Scotiabank, with TSN’s Kristen Shilton reporting that the arena will be re-named ‘Scotiabank Arena’.
The deal between MLSE and Scotiabank is worth a reported $800 million over 20 years, which Westhead notes is believed to be “the highest-priced annual building and team sponsorship in North American sports history.”
Built in 1999, this will mark the first name change in the building’s history.
Rest easy, ACC. We’ll miss you.
