Around The Atlantic: More like the AtLOLtic

There are so many bad teams in this division the Leafs can take a week off and nobody will capitalize on it.

1st: Tampa Bay Lightning

24-6-2 (50 points) / +43 goal differential
The Lighting are good. Very good, in fact. They beat St. Louis, Arizona, and Colorado last week by a combined score of 13-6 and are now riding a seven-game winning streak. They’ve managed to separate themselves from the Leafs by nine points and appear to be the clear favourites to come out of the Eastern Conference this spring.
The team scoring goals at an absurd pace, as they rank first in the league with 123 goals. But a more under-the-radar storyline on this Lightning team is the very good play of Andrei Vasilevskiy in his first full season. He owns a .934 save percentage, and while goalie wins aren’t necessarily indicative of individual performance, he’s the sixth goalie in NHL history to win 20 games through 25 appearances in a season.

2nd: Toronto Maple Leafs

20-13-1 (41 points) / +12 goal differential
The Leafs had an ugly week, dropping all three of their games. They lost to Philadelphia, Minnesota, and Detroit, which is bad because all of those teams are meh. The issue for the Leafs last week was an inability to score as the team scored just three goals in the three games.
Auston, come back please.

3rd: Boston Bruins

15-10-5 (35 points) / +1 goal differential
The Bruins had a solid week, going 1-1-1 with a win over Detroit, a loss to Washington, and an overtime loss to the Rangers. They’re finally fully healthy and are playing pretty well. They’ve managed to separate themselves by three points from the Canadiens despite having played three fewer games.
Boston also buried Matt Beleskey in the AHL last week because he doesn’t have a point in 14 games. Wow, nobody saw that coming when he signed a five-year deal back in 2015 after having a career year next to Ryan Getzlaf.

4th: Montreal Canadiens

14-15-4 (32 points) / -16 goal differential
Montreal only played two games last week. They won one of them, an overtime win over New Jersey, but they got dropped 3-0 in the outdoor game against the Senators. I’m pretty sure it was Ottawa’s first win in, like, a month, so that isn’t a good look on the Habs.
The team is completely incompetent offensively. Brendan Gallagher is the only player with more than 10 goals and nobody has 20 points yet. Imagine getting shutout by the Sens. Woof.

5th: Detroit Red Wings

12-13-7 (31 points) / -17 goal differential
The Red Wings had a successful week last week. They gained two loser points after overtime losses to Florida and Boston and they beat the struggling Leafs.
Still, the Red Wings are very bad. They have just two wins in their last 12 games largely because their goaltenders aren’t bailing them out like they were earlier in the season.
The team’s plan to fix things? Shove Anthony Mantha on the fourth line that’s centred by the rotting husk of David Booth.

6th: Ottawa Senators

11-13-7 (29 points) / -18 goal differential
After losing 11 of 12 games since returning from Sweden, the Senators are entering uncharted territory. They’ve won two games in a row as they downed the Rangers and beat Montreal in their outdoor game. Still, there’s a lot of ground for this team to make up before they inevitably decide to blow it up at the trade deadline and try to recoup the assets they gave away in that hilarious Matt Duchene trade.

7th: Florida Panthers

12-16-5 (29 points) / -20 goal differential
The Panthers had a very Panthers week last week. They beat Detroit in overtime, because when two bad teams meet up someone’s gotta win, and then they lost to Chicago, Colorado, and Vegas.
The Vegas game was especially hilarious because it featured a combined five points from Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith, who the Panthers figured weren’t good enough to be on their team last summer. Gerard Gallant’s excellent coaching really left the Panthers feeling like they were abandoned on the side of the road.

8th: Buffalo Sabres

8-18-7 (23 points) / -39 goal differential
Lmfao who cares? Contract the Sabres.
