Babcock asked Calle to Rise and Calle Rosen.
The Leafs signed Calle Rosen in the offseason and he became a Norris Trophy candidate.
Two mostly unknown Swedish defencemen in Calle Rosen and Andreas Borgman immediately became best friends and starred in a buddy cop movie on way to the Leafs winning their first Stanley Cup since 1967.
Roman Polak returned to the Leafs yesterday on a one-year deal. Today, Calle Rosen was loaned to the Toronto Marlies in order to make room for the return of one of Toronto’s most controversial defenceman.
While the Polak move might have been shocking to some, the Rosen move itself isn’t that surprising. He didn’t quite look up to speed, and got replaced by a familiar face. Whether you like that or not is a different story, but it’s been clear through the first stretch of the season Rosen probably isn’t a quality NHL defenceman right now. He looked a little deer-in-headlights sometimes on the ice, which is fair considering it’s, you know, his first NHL season. But on a team that’s looking to be more than just ‘meh’, Babcock and the Leafs management had seen enough and it’s onto the next guy.
Will Rosen be back with the big club in a few weeks? A few months? Or is this the last we ever seen of him unless you’re watching the Marlies? Hard to say!
Let’s check in on the TLN staff’s reactions to Polak in, Rosen out:
And then?
Oh.
Leafs play the Kings tonight!
