After a convincing 4-2 win over Finland yesterday afternoon, Team Canada was back in action at the 2018 World Juniors today, this time facing off against Team Slovakia, who were playing their first game of the tournament.
No Kyle Clague for Canada, which would be the only personnel difference on paper. Connor Timmins slotted in in place of Clague.
In goal, Colton Point would start, after Carter Hart played and won in yesterday’s game.

First Period

Like last night, Canada would come out of the gates strong. They would open the scoring 3:39 into the game, with Sam Steel potting one past Slovakian goaltender David Hrenak, who was down and out by the time the puck landed on Steel’s stick.
A beautiful feed over to Steel, the Anaheim Ducks prospect, for his second goal in as many nights for Canada. 1-0!
Canada would appear to score a second goal shortly afterward, but it was waved off almost instantly after it was determined to have been offside. Still 1-0.
Later in the period, an anxious moment for Canada:
Marian Studenic was cut on the play, and Jake Bean had to be helped off the ice, and would not return for the remainder of the period.
That would be all the action in the opening frame, with Canada leading 1-0 while controlling the vast majority of the game.

Second Period

Jake Bean was on the bench to start the second period, appearing no worse for wear. A lucky break for Canada, but also fortunate for Bean, who got to witness this:
An absolutely absurd move by Jordan Kyrou to give Canada a 2-0 lead in what’s been shaping up to be quite the coming out party for the St. Louis Blues prospect.
That wouldn’t be all, though. Just over four minutes later, Cale Makar would throw the puck on net, and Jonah Gadjovich would take the rebound into his own hands and tuck the puck past Hrenak to put Canada up 3-0.
A simple but effective backhander by the 19-year old Canucks prospect.
Canada would strike again before all was said and done, and Sam Steel and Jordan Kyrou would be part of the action yet again. Kyrou would receive the puck from steel and throw it to the front of the net, where Taylor Raddysh was parked and tipped an initial shot on Hrenak, who made the save, but who would be beaten bar-down on Raddysh’s ensuing opportunity. 4-0!
That would be it for the second. A world-beating period that would see Canada net three more goals, with the shots sitting at 34-14 after two.

Third Period

Opportunities abounded for the majority of the third period, but nothing seemed to be giving. After a couple of power plays that saw Team Canada come close but fail to convert, they would ultimately find the back with just over 4 minutes left to play.
Wow.
Just a gorgeous backhand by another Anaheim Ducks prospect, Maxime Contois, for his first of the tournament. 5-0.
With time winding down in the game, Canada still figured they had enough time to squeeze another marker in before all was said and done.
Make that two on the night for Jonah Gadjovich, and 6-0 Canada.
That’s all she wrote; a dominant victory for Team Canada to put them to 2-0 on the tournament, with Colton Point picking up the shutout for Canada, making 20 saves in the process.

Good Pl’r Jonah Gadjovich.
Jordan Kyrou: Good at hockey?
That’s all for tonight, folks. Canada is back in action on Friday, playing outdoors for the first time in WJC history when they take on Team USA. Puck drop is at 2pm ET.
