In the is-he-or-is-he-not dance that fans had to play with Connor Carrick on waivers, it was announced shortly after that he was in fact traded to the Dallas Stars.
As Bob McKenzie confirms, it is in fact for a 7th-round pick in 2019 that can become a 6th-round pick if he plays 50 games for the Stars this season.
Carrick arrived in Toronto in a trade from the Washington Capitals at the 2016 trade deadline for Daniel Winnik. He played a total of 130 games for the Leafs, scoring 8 goals and 24 points.
Always considered a bottom-pairing defenceman, Carrick was leapfrogged on the depth chart by both Justin Holl and Martin Marincin to start the 2018-19 season.
In Dallas, Carrick will find at least one familiar face in Roman Polak – the other depth defenceman that he had to battle for a spot with.
At least it’s better than losing him on waivers.
We’ll miss you Hoagie.
