The interview process is officially underway to find the next head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
At this point, it appears that there’s two main contenders for the job. More on that in a second, though.
With all that in mind, we kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s getting nasty. Firstly, Sam Bennett’s been up to his old antics, and Boston fans are pissed. Brad Marchand’s banged up. There has to be some irony somewhere in there. Meantime, Nikita Zadorov, who’s expected to be courted by the Leafs if he gets to unrestricted free agency, has been playing like a man possessed for the Canucks. Rosey weighed in on Carson Soucy’s cross checked on Connor McDavid in Game 3, too. We tackled so many different talking points. It just sucks that the Leafs aren’t still playing.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we sifted through the very latest on the coaching search. By all accounts, it sounds like Craig Berube remains the front runner. He was the first guy they interviewed on Saturday, and apparently the two sides chatted again on Sunday, too. Also, it appears the Leafs will be interviewing Todd McLellan as well. He was spotted at LAX boarding a plane for Toronto. What’s with this city and tracking planes? Wild stuff. Additionally, we talked about Sheldon Keefe a bit. It feels like the Devils could be pivoting off Berube and zoning in on Keefe. New Jersey requested permission to speak to him over the weekend. There’s never a dull moment when it comes to the NHL’s offseason coaching carousel. This year has been no different.

Then, brought to you by Wendy’s, we had an all-encompassing crease conversation. We outlined some potential free agent/trade targets. It doesn’t matter who coaches this team if they have no one to rely on in between the pipes. For the record, Linus Ullmark and Juuse Saros were the two most prominent names brought up in this conversation.
Be sure to join us for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take as we break down the very latest on the coaching search.
