66 and counting.
Auston Matthews is the first NHL player in 28 years to score 66 goals in a single season.
Amazing stuff.
The 26-year-old needs just four goals over the final four games to hit the 70-goal plateau, a mark that hasn’t been reached since the 1992-93 campaign.
Anthony Stewart filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing the excitement level within Leafs Nation right now. The Leafs are now 20-7-1 in their last 28 games. They lead the NHL in wins, points, and goals scored in that span.
Presented by DoorDash, the Appetizer focused on the impressive 5-2 win in Newark on Tuesday night. Once again, the top line was money in the bank for Sheldon Keefe and company. The Bertuzzi (two goals, one assist), Matthews (one goal, one assist), Domi (two assists) trio combined for three goals and seven points on the night. Meantime, Nick Robertson, who returned to the lineup after back-to-back health bombs, scored his fifth goal in the past 11 outings and Joseph Woll made 18 saves for his first win in nine days.
After that, brought to you by Douglas, NHL on Sportsnet Host David Amber dropped by to give his thoughts on the squad down the stretch. We hit on Auston Matthews, the Hart Trophy race, and how the Leafs potentially stack up against their likely first round opponent, the Florida Panthers.

Additionally, thanks to our friends over at Charm Diamond Centres, we took our weekly look at the Atlantic Division standings. With four games remaining, the Leafs are three points behind the Panthers with one game in hand for second in the Atlantic and six points up on Tampa for the third in the division.
Lastly, for the Great Clips inbox question of the week, we were asked if we would throw down $1000 on Matthews getting to 70 goals. At this point, it’s tough to bet against Papi. Hopefully, they don’t elect to rest him.
The wait is over. Jay Rosehill will make his highly anticipated return for the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we preview another meeting with New Jersey. Also, NHL Network Analyst and former Devil Mike Rupp will drop by the show.
