Happy Family Day!
Auston Matthews’ chase for 70 goals is getting realer by the day. The guy’s an absolute machine. It’s not fair.
Jay Rosehill, who’s in Cancun on a family vacation, was back in the mix for the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing his trip so far and what he’s been up to. After that, he dished a bit on what he’s seen the past few games from the suddenly red-hot Leafs. They’re 3-0 since Morgan Rielly was suspended. Go figure.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on Toronto’s impressive 9-2 beatdown of the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night. Auston Matthews notched his second straight hat-trick and is now up to 48 goals in 52 outings. SO absurd. He’s on pace for a ludicrous 75. Additionally, we talked about his biggest feat from his first career five-point game: Getting Tyler Bertuzzi a goal. Mercifully, the winger ended a 19-game goalless drought in the blowout win. Also, we touched on Radko Gudas and how he wanted no part of Ryan Reaves. Predictable.
Meantime, thanks to the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we previewed the Family Day matinee in St. Louis as Toronto kicks off a very difficult four-game Western road trip. Last Tuesday, they smothered the Blues 4-1 at Scotiabank Arena.
After that, courtesy of BATL Axe, Dean Evason, who was recently dismissed from his head coaching position by the Minnesota Wild, stopped by to give his unique perspective on the Maple Leafs. He had a lot of really interesting, outside the box type things to say about coaching against Toronto.
