Would you get offended if you were asked for your Snapchat score and Uber rating when interviewing for a job?
Well, funny enough, the Utah Hockey Club was reportedly asking players just that at the draft combine over the weekend. Seems a bit excessive, doesn’t it?
At any rate, that’s where the conversation started on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Being the former NHL player, Rosey brought some unique perspective to the entire debate. He was fine with it, which given some of his spicy hot takes over the past few years, was a bit surprising. It’s incredible what the game has evolved to off the ice in 2024 —that’s for sure.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we talked about the roughly $19.7 million in reported current cap space that the Leafs possess and what we would aim to do with it. It’s hard to make trades these days, so naturally, a bunch of the heavy lifting will have to be done through free agency. We touched on names like Brett Pesce, Sean Walker, and Nikita Zadorov, among others. One thing is for sure, though: The Leafs need to add at least two blue liners this summer —if not three. Suffice it is to say, Brad Treliving will have his work cut out for himself. The biggest mistakes are commonly made around July 1st.
After that, thanks to Wendy’s, we welcomed in Sportsnet’s NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman for an all-encompassing chat. We hit a boatload of topics. We started with the CapFriendly acquisition before transitioning to Mitch Marner. Additionally, we also talked about what the Leafs are looking to do in the crease as well as who they may target in free agency. Lastly, we touched on Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi, who are both just weeks away from once again becoming unrestricted free agents.
