Just six short days ago, it appeared the Leafs were dead to rights following their uninspiring Game 4 loss on home ice.
Somehow, someway, led by Joseph Woll in between the pipes, Sheldon Keefe and company have found a way to weather the storm and force yet another Game 7 in Boston against the Bruins.
We kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take by giving our initial reaction to incredible Game 6 victory. Additionally, we touched on Producer Vick being an absolute legend and Easton Cowan being named OHL MVP. Two things you just love to see!
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we broke down a few things we saw from the 2-1 victory. Obviously, Joseph Woll, who made 22 stops, and William Nylander (two goals) were the two standouts. Additionally, we gave some love to the raucous Scotiabank Arena crowd. They were dialled in, and so were the Maple Leafs. Bar none, that was one of the best defensive post season performances by that club in years. There’s no doubt about it.
After that, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, former Leafs netminder Felix Potvin made his Leafs Morning Take debut. It was a lot of fun. We got his thoughts on Joseph Woll, Ilya Samsonov, Boston’s crease, and of course, Game 7 on Saturday night. It’s always fun to take a stroll down memory lane with former players. FELIX THE CAT!

Next up, courtesy Wendy’s, we continued to chat about Game 6 while also previewing Game 7. In this discussion, Matthew Knies, who made a great play to spring Nylander for his second goal, got a lot of praise. And rightfully so. Also, Rosey touched on Jack Edwards. The legendary Bruins play by play voice called his final game on Thursday night. Tough way to go out!
Lastly, for the Great Clips inbox question of the week, we were asked about who we think should come out of the lineup in the event that Auston Matthews can play in Game 7. We agreed that it would likely come down to Noah Gregor and Nick Robertson.
Monday’s show should be a fascinating one. We’ll either be looking ahead to a Round 2 rematch with Florida, or we’ll be picking apart the pieces from another crippling Game 7 loss against the Bruins. Either way, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff will be by to break down all the mayhem with us.
