The sports broadcasting world has lost an absolute legend with the passing of TSN Anchor Darren Dutchyshen.
Naturally, we kicked off the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the 57-year-old and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be so greatly missed. Dutchyshen was a trailblazer, a pioneer, and most importantly, a quality human being. Our condolences to his family and friends.
It was a tough transition, but after that, we weighed in on Elias Pettersson’s bizarre media availability from Wednesday. Suffice it is to say, he’s had a very difficult postseason thus far for the upstart Canucks. That series is all square at two with a huge Game 5 on the horizon. Speaking of which, we gave some props to the Colorado Avalanche, who showed some big-time fight in their 5-3 Game 5 win against Dallas. The Stars still lead that series 3-2. The fourth victory is always the hardest one to get.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we talked some Easton Cowan. In case you missed it, the 18-year-old winger, who the Leafs took 28th overall last June, is off to the Memorial Cup. Cowan notched a goal and three helpers as London finished off an impressive four-game sweep of the Oshawa Generals in the OHL Final. And yes, Cowan took home Playoff MVP honours. The last two players to win both the regular season and playoff MVP in the same year: Mitch Marner and Connor McDavid. You get the point. Without question, Cowan will get a legitimate shot to crack the Leafs roster next fall.
After that, made possible by Wendy’s, former Leaf and current TSN Hockey Analyst Frankie Corrado dropped by the show. The conversation continued on Dutchyshen and Cowan. Additionally, we also chatted some Craig Berube, too. For what it’s worth, it sounds like the Leafs could be closing in on making a coaching decision.
