The Maple Leafs announced this morning that Frederik Andersen has missed practice this morning and will not play tonight due to a flu.
They re-called Kasimir Kaskisuo on an emergency basis, which suggests that Garret Sparks is not quite ready to play either, since dealing with the concussion protocol and possibly suffering from some post-concussion symptoms. Sparks filled in for Andersen’s injury for 3 games before becoming injured himself. The team won 2 of those 3 games, but Sparks had only an 88.5% save percentage during that time.
So far this season, Kaskisuo has an 86.7% save percentage in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies, and has not started a game for the Maple Leafs.
Michael Hutchinson has been competent filling in for Andersen since Sparks got hurt, with 2 wins and 2 losses, posting a 91.9% save percentage.
Andersen has missed 7 games with injury and will miss a 8th tonight. Hutchinson will be the starter when the Leafs play the Bruins tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
