Furies Postgame: Furies Come Close, But Calgary Takes it in OT

The Toronto Furies took on the reigning Clarkson Cup Champions for the first time this season. In a thrilling fight to overtime, the Calgary Inferno took the W.
THE RUNDOWN
- In goal for the Toronto Furies is Christina Kessler, and for the Calgary Inferno is Delayne Brian.
- Furies score early in the first. Jenelle Kohanchuk from Carlee Campbell and Natalie Spooner. 1-0 Furies.
- Michelle Saunders takes a penalty not long after for body contact. The Furies successfully kill it.
- Later in the period, Saunders takes another penalty, this time for tripping. Furies mount a successful penalty kill once more.
- Inferno take an early penalty, Meaghan Mikkelson, for holding.
- Inferno tie it up with a shorthanded, unassisted goal from Bailey Bram. 1-1 tied game.
- Inferno back on the penalty kill soon after. Jacquie Pierri takes a penalty for interference.
- Brigitte Lacquette of the Inferno scores off assists by Brianne Jenner and Blayre Turnbull. 2-1 Inferno.
- Inferno on the kill again, fourth time this period. Iya Gavrilova goes off for the slash.
- Furies start the third period with 23 seconds left on the powerplay.
- Halfway through the third, the Inferno head back to the box for another penalty. Brittany Esposito goes off for body checking.
- Furies score a powerplay goal to tie it up. Michela Cava from Spooner and Kohanchuk. 2-2 tied game.
- Game stays tied to the end of the third, headed to overtime.
- Shots after 3 periods: Toronto – 23 and Calgary – 29.
- Inferno score with 1:07 left in overtime. Haley Irwin with the winner. 3-2 Inferno.
BLUE WARRIOR
Today’s Blue Warrior is Christina Kessler. She held down the fort for the Furies, keeping the score to only 3-2, when it could easily have been much, much higher. She’s been a rock all season so far for the Furies and has already been my Blue Warrior twice. Let’s see how long her badass streak lasts.
SHOUTOUT
Shoutout goes to the Spooner-Kohanchuk-Campbell line. This line has appeared practically unstoppable this season and this game was no exception. They scored the first goal of the game and two-thirds of the line combined again with Michela Cava to score on the powerplay.
