The Toronto Furies swept Les Canadiennes de Montreal this weekend with Sunday’s 5-2 win, giving Les Canadiennes not only their first loss of the season, but also their second loss and first sweep.

THE RUNDOWN

  • Christina Kessler starts in net for the Toronto Furies. Catherine Herron starts in net for Les Canadiennes de Montreal.
  • Toronto opens the scoring early with a goal from Michela Cava off a pass from Julie Allen. 1-0 Furies.
  • Allen scores just minutes later, Carlee Campbell picking up the assist. 2-0 Furies.
  • At 14:34 in the first, Emmanuelle Blais heads to the box for crosschecking.
  • Allen scores her second on the powerplay with assists from Natalie Spooner and Erin Ambrose. 3-0 Furies.
  • Noemie Marin takes a penalty for hooking and sits for 2 minutes. Les Canadiennes kill it off.
  • Blais gets 2 minutes for hooking soon after and heads to the box. Les Canadiennes kill that one off too.
  • Toronto’s Allen heads to the box not long after for crosschecking. 4-on-4 hockey.
  • At 19:54 in the first period, Kim Deschenes takes a tripping penalty. Furies start the second period with a 1:54 powerplay.
  • Intense pressure from Les Canadiennes around the Furies net, but Kessler stands tall.
  • Shannon Moulson takes a penalty for interference halfway through the second at 9:48.
  • Lauriane Rougeau scores Montreal’s first of the game at 12:06 in the second. 3-1 Furies.
  • At the end of the second period, Toronto’s Jenelle Kohanchuk heads to the box for hooking. Les Canadiennes start the third period on the powerplay.
  • Marin gets her second of the game at 1:27 in the third. 3-2 Furies.
  • Lots of hard hitting, back and forth hockey from both teams in the final frame.
  • Toronto’s Kelly Terry scores with an assist from Kohanchuk with 5 minutes left in the third period. 4-2 Furies.
  • Montreal pulls Herron from the net for the extra attacker with 2:49 left in the third. 6-on-5 hockey.
  • Terry gets called for holding at 17:49. 6-on-4 hockey.
  • Renata Fast scores an empty-net goal, unassisted. 5-2 Furies.

BLUE WARRIOR

Today’s Blue Warrior is Julie Allen. Allen scored two of Toronto’s five goals today, and assisted on a third. When she wasn’t scoring goals or making plays that lead to them, Allen was all over the ice. She forced turnovers, kept the puck in the offensive zone, and was just generally a nuisance for Les Canadiennes.

SHOUTOUT

Shoutout today goes to Marie-Philip Poulin. At the start of second intermission, a group of young girls, all from GTA hockey teams, stood and waited to high-five Les Canadiennes as the came off the ice. Poulin held up the line so that she could speak to and high-five each and every one, including teasing and playing games with the littlest of the group, and making them jump to high-five her. It was fantastic to watch.

COMING UP NEXT

The Toronto Furies next take on their GTA rival, the Brampton Thunder, on Saturday December 3rd at Brampton Memorial Arena. Puck drops in Brampton at 6:30pm.
