Furies Postgame: Furies Win, Clinch Clarkson Cup Playoff Berth

The Toronto Furies faced off against the Boston Blades in their second to last weekend series of the CWHL regular season. With a clinching spot in the Clarkson Cup Playoffs coming to them if they won, the Furies were in it to win.

THE RUNDOWN

  • Starting in goal for Toronto is Christina Kessler. Starting in goal for Boston is Lauren Dahm.
  • Toronto takes an early lead with a goal from Jenna Dingeldein, and assists from Emily Fulton and Kelly Terry. 1-0 Furies.
  • Boston’s Nachi Fujimoto takes a hooking penalty. Furies on the powerplay 
  • Toronto’s Shannon Moulson takes a roughing penalty. Furies on the penalty kill.
  • Toronto scores early in the second period with a goal from Natalie Spooner, and assists from Jenelle Kohanchuk and Tanis Lamoureux. 2-0 Furies.
  • Boston’s Sadie St Germain takes a delay of game penalty. Furies on the powerplay.
  • The Blades cut the lead in half with a goal from Melissa Bizzari. 2-1 Furies.
  • Coincidental roughing penalties taken by Toronto’s Dingeldein and Boston’s Meghan Grieves. 4-on-4 hockey.
  • Boston’s Melissa Bizzari takes a hooking penalty. Furies on the powerplay.
  • Boston’s Erin Kickham takes a hooking penalty. Furies on the powerplay.
  • With only minutes left in the third period, the Blades pull the goal for the extra skater.
  • Toronto’s Lamoureux scores unassisted for the empty net goal. 3-1 Furies.

BLUE WARRIOR

Tonight’s Blue Warrior goes to Tanis Lamoureux. Lamoureux had a multi-point game tonight, scoring the empty net goal and getting an assist on the Spooner goal in the second period as well. Lamoureux stayed out of the penalty box and kept her team focused on the game ahead.

SHOUTOUT

Shoutout to the 2016-2017 Furies team. For the seventh season in a row, the Toronto Furies have now made the Clarkson Cup Playoffs. The Furies took the Clarkson Cup Championship in 2014 and this year, look to bring a hefty competition to the playoff series.

COMING UP NEXT

The Toronto Furies next lace up their skates tomorrow afternoon, Sunday January 29th, in their second game this weekend against the Boston Blades. The game will take place at UMass Lowell with the puck dropping at 1pm EST.
