Furies Postgame: Les Canadiennes Take the W in Sportsnet Broadcast Game

In the last weekend of Toronto’s CWHL regular season, the Furies are looking to fight for as many extra points as possible, hoping to put them up and over 3rd-placed Brampton in the standings. Unfortunately, today’s game didn’t quite go as well as the Furies had planned.
THE RUNDOWN
- Starting in goal for the Furies is Christina Kessler. Starting in goal for les Canadiennes is Charline Labonte.
- Montreal’s Kim Deschenes takes an early penalty for roughing. Furies on the powerplay.
- Toronto’s Danielle Gagne takes a holding penalty. Furies on the penalty kill.
- Montreal’s Marie-Philip Poulin scores with the assists from Anne-Sophie Bettez and Sophie Brault. 1-0 les Canadiennes.
- Toronto’s Emily Fulton and Montreal’s Leslie Oles are both given roughing penalties. 4-on-4 hockey.
- Toronto’s Carolyne Prevost takes a bodychecking penalty for bodychecking. Furies on the penalty kill.
- Early in the second period, Toronto’s Erin Ambrose takes a penalty for roughing. Furies on the penalty kill.
- Toronto’s Shannon Moulson takes a tripping penalty. Furies on the penalty kill.
- Les Canadiennes de Montreal score once more, but the goal is called back after being kicked in. 1-0 les Canadiennes.
- Toronto’s Natalie Spooner takes a delay of game penalty as her attempt to clear the puck goes over the glass and out. Furies on the penalty kill.
- Montreal’s Caroline Ouellette takes a slashing penalty. Furies on the powerplay.
- Toronto’s Jenelle Kohanchuk takes an interference penalty with 2:15 left in the game. Furies on the penalty kill.
- Toronto pulls the goaltender, Kessler, for the empty net at 1:48 left in the game.
- Montreal’s Karell Emard scores the empty net goal with the assist from Bettez. 2-0 les Canadiennes.
- Shots on goal: Toronto – 18, Montreal – 28.
BLUE WARRIOR
Today’s Blue Warrior is goaltender, Christina Kessler. Kessler played like an absolute beast in goal today for the Furies. She made 27 of 28 saves against les Canadiennes, including denying Caroline Ouellette her 131st career goal. Kessler earned herself the second star of the game with her performance today and deserved every bit of it.
SHOUTOUT
Today’s shoutout goes to Charline Labonte. Today’s game was very much a goaltending battle, and with all the scrappiness in front of their nets, it was all on the goaltenders to succeed. Charline Labonte came out on top today.
