The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to shuffle the line-up to try to re-discover the style of play that saw them come out of the gates with four wins to start the season. Christian Hanson will slot into the fourth line centre role while Kris Versteeg returns from his back injury and Luca Caputi remains in the line-up after an impressive season debut against Boston. The New York Rangers are in townn for their third meeting in just over two weeks. The Leafs have an OT win and a regulation loss so far.
Here is some pre-game reading:
- Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky are big parts of the Rangers’ future but are they also a big part of their present?
- Christian Hanson is being asked to use his size and speed to wear down the Rangers.
- Colton Orr will be wearing pink skates tonight to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Maple Leafs’ offensive struggles begin and end with the man advantage. They are actually middle of the pack at even strength but the powerplay, after a hopeful start, has begun it’s march to last year’s depths. The same can be said of the penalty kill. Both systems will have to alternately return to and maintain their current paces if the buds are to have a successful season.
Finally, your flashback for tonight, a game two years ago that featured a wild third period:
